The Cheesesteak was originated in Philadelphia in the early 20th century. The original sandwich consisted of thinly sliced pieces of beefsteak, onions, and cheese on a small loaf of bread. Pat and Harry Olivieri are credited with making the first cheesesteak sandwich in 1930, at their hotdog stand near Philadelphia's famous Italian Market. Today there are many different variations of the cheesesteak, including using chicken in place of beef, or adding on mushrooms and peppers for toppings.
